Deciding to have a breast augmentation is not a decision to make lightly: there are many options, questions, and, not infrequently, uncertainties too - particularly when it comes to potential risks. Choosing the right anaesthesia method is also a key factor, as it has a direct impact on your comfort, your safety, and your recovery after breast surgery.

At BRST, we place the highest value on tailoring the anaesthesia method to you individually - always in line with your chosen treatment method and your personal needs. Whether you choose breast augmentation with Mia Femtech™, Motiva Preservé™, or Motiva JOY.(dot)®: an experienced anaesthesiology specialist is at your side throughout the entire treatment to ensure maximum safety.

Wondering which anaesthesia method is the safest? You're not alone. In this article, we explain the options available and how you'll be expertly advised and cared for at BRST.

Why Is Choosing the Right Anaesthesia Method So Important?

Many patients feel anxious about anaesthesia before a breast augmentation - and that's completely understandable. Anaesthesia is a decisive factor when it comes to the safety, comfort, and overall experience of your breast augmentation.

We'd like to put your mind at ease. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology and comprehensive care from our anaesthesia team, you're in safe hands at BRST.

We are committed to choosing the anaesthesia method best suited to you, your planned procedure, and your expectations. Throughout, you remain under the supervision of an experienced anaesthesiologist at all times.

Tailoring the anaesthesia method to the individual patient is the key to safe, comfortable treatment. Modern monitoring technology and our seamless specialist care make our procedures particularly low-risk.

We at BRST know that every patient has different preferences and medical requirements. Choosing the right anaesthesia method ensures that you can approach your treatment as free of anxiety as possible and feel fully looked after at every stage of the procedure.

Which Anaesthesia Methods Are Available for Breast Augmentation?

Depending on the method and your personal preferences, we offer three proven options at BRST: general anaesthesia, twilight sedation, and local anaesthesia.

General Anaesthesia (Allgemeinanästhesie)

General anaesthesia is the most common choice for larger procedures, such as classic breast augmentation with Motiva JOY.(dot)®. Here, we put you into a deep sleep in which you feel no pain and have no sense of time passing.

Characteristics of general anaesthesia:

  • Your breathing, circulation, and consciousness are continuously monitored by specialised anaesthesiologists.
  • You sleep throughout and are unaware of the procedure.
  • General anaesthesia is used for more extensive procedures and for implants placed under the chest muscle.

Modern technology makes general anaesthesia particularly gentle. Nausea and fatigue, which used to be common, now occur only very rarely.

Twilight Sedation (Dämmerschlaf)

With sedation, you are put into a relaxed, sleep-like state while the breast procedure is carried out. You continue to breathe independently and feel no pain at all.

Characteristics of twilight sedation:

  • No artificial ventilation is required; you wake up faster compared to general anaesthesia.
  • Sedation is used for minimally invasive procedures such as the Mia Femtech™ or Motiva Preservé™ method.

Our patients frequently report that they remember nothing and found the treatment very pleasant - an ideal solution for smaller procedures, or for women who wish to avoid general anaesthesia.

Local Anaesthesia (Lokalanästhesie)

With local anaesthesia, only the surgical area itself is numbed while you remain fully conscious. This method is suitable for smaller procedures, as well as minimally invasive procedures such as the Mia Femtech™ or Motiva Preservé™ method.

Characteristics of local anaesthesia:

  • You remain awake and still feel no pain in the treated area.
  • This form of anaesthesia is less suitable for larger procedures, as being conscious during the procedure can be uncomfortable for many patients.

At BRST, we mainly use this method in combination with twilight sedation to increase comfort.

What Is the Safest Method? Our Conclusion From a Specialist's Perspective

All three anaesthesia methods have their place - which one is safest depends on the method used, your individual anatomy, and your personal preferences. What matters most: at BRST, we apply the highest safety standards - because you and your well-being are our focus at every stage.

Choosing the right anaesthesia method is a decisive factor in the success of a breast augmentation. Our commitment is to protect every patient through comprehensive information and careful monitoring at every stage of treatment.
