What anaesthetic procedures are available for breast augmentation?
Depending on the method and personal preferences, we at BRST offer three tried-and-tested options: general anaesthesia, twilight sleep (sedation), and local anaesthesia.
General anaesthetic
General anaesthesia is the most common choice for larger procedures such as a classic breast augmentation with Motiva JOY.(dot)®. Here we put you into a Deep sleep, in which you perceive neither pain nor the passage of time.
Features of General Anaesthesia:
- Your breathing, circulation, and consciousness will be continuously monitored by specialist anaesthetists.
- You will sleep throughout and won't notice the procedure.
- General anaesthesia is used for more extensive procedures and for implantations under the pectoral muscle.
Modern technologies make general anaesthesia particularly gentle. Nausea and fatigue, which were common in the past, now occur only very rarely.
Sedation
Bei der Sedierung werden Sie in einen relaxed, sleep-like state while the breast surgery is being performed. You remain independently able to breathe and feel no pain.
Characteristics of twilight sleep:
- Artificial ventilation is not required; you wake up faster compared to a general anaesthetic.
- Sedation is used for minimally invasive procedures such as the Mia Femtech™ or Motiva Preservé™ method.
Our patients frequently report that they have no recollection and found the treatment very pleasant - an optimal solution for minor procedures or for women who wish to avoid a general anaesthetic.

Local anaesthetic
Local anaesthesia involves Only the surgical area is anaesthetised specifically, while you remain conscious. This procedure is suitable for minor procedures or minimally invasive procedures such as the Mia Femtech™ or Motiva Preservé™ method.
Features of local anaesthesia:
- You stay awake and still feel no pain in the affected area.
- This form of anaesthesia is rather unsuitable for larger procedures, as the awareness of the procedure can be uncomfortable for many patients.
At BRST, we primarily use this method in combination with twilight sleep to enhance comfort.
